The Orthodox Presbyterian Church

OPC Logo
Living Hope Church belongs to the Orthodox Presbyterian denomination.

The O.P.C. started as the "Presbyterian Church of America" in 1936, led by J. Gresham Machen, an outspoken opponent of liberalism within the Presbyterian Church in the U.S.A.  The denomination later changed it's name to the "Orthodox Presbyterian Church" in 1939.

The OPC stands firmly in the Reformed tradition within the body of Christ, and holds to a Presbyterian form of government.  We hold to the fundamental doctrines of Christianity as set forth in the Westminster Larger and Shorter Catechism and Confession of Faith.

The term "Orthodox" comes from the Greek words "Ortho" (to make straight) and "doxa" (thinking).  The OPC stands for "Straight thinking" and rejects liberal views of Scripture.

The Orthodox Presbyterian Denomination maintains a very informative website which should be visited if you are interested in a more detailed explanation.
